Zurich is a great city to live in for many reasons. Zurich is well known for its extreme cleanliness, reliable public transportation, and low crime rate. There are many high-paying jobs in sectors such as finance, IT, and healthcare. Tech companies such as Google and ABB Group have a strong presence in Zurich, offering prestigious and well-paying jobs. Because of the high quality of life and great jobs, Zurich has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe. Zurich allows for a very good quality of life in many aspects, such as world-class free healthcare services, low corruption in government, and an excellent constitution providing freedom of speech, press, and top human rights. Switzerland is often ranked the highest in best for LGBTQ+ rights (same-sex relationships have been legal since 1798). Zurich also boasts many outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, boating, and skiing. Zurich is also home to top educational institutions such as ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.
While Zurich has many upsides, there are a few notable issues. For starters, Zurich is one of the most expensive cities to live in. Renting an apartment, groceries, transportation, entertainment, and dining are also very expensive. While English is very prominent, German is still the official language of Switzerland, and official processes are all done in German. It also may be difficult to integrate into Swiss society without knowing German. The climate is also quite cold, and while beautiful some times of the year, winters can be drab and boring.
